Sarah C,
To me Tybalt seems like the kind of person who likes to stir up fights as evidenced in the first scene. I think he goes after Romeo to start trouble.

Sarah C-
I think Tybalt goes after Romeo because he is still insulted and angry that Romeo attended the Capulet party and wants to demonstrtate his power to keep Romeo from interfering with Capulet affairs again.

I agree with Christa that he went after Romeo because of the party. As for Mercutio, I don't really know. I took it that he was fighting because Romeo wouldn't fight back and Tybalt was going to kill him. I'm not sure if that is right or not though?
