Period 5 Scribe

PERIOD 5 SCRIBE - heck yes

Just to recap today's events...

Sadly Smith wasn't here - so we had a Starbucks party with Mrs. Ritzdorf
It was awesome- be jealous

OK so we started off with our lovely reflections

Then we moved on to taking our "truly" true quiz
(for those of you who did not finish, this includes myself, the quiz is due Monday. So do not forget to do that.)

After our quiz, we moved on to fishbowl.
It was very intense and we talked about all kinds of inappropriate things. It really was a good fishbowl, there were many good things that we talked about. Thanks to Dan, Lane and Anna for the great fishbowl and running the class today.

Homework for the weekend:

  1. Read pages 147-167 in 1984 - the next fishbowl is MONDAY
  2. Blog question
  3. You should probably work on figuring out your arena scheduling worksheet- it is due April 24
  4. Quiz is also due Monday

Have a good weekend, See you all on Monday!

I thought the quiz was fine. You had some serious deep thinking questions.

good point, danh. Is it not there, or am I missing something?

Um, yeah. That too. Is there anything you want us to discuss?

Well, I tried to post the question, but blogger is not working. Yet again. So, I'll just post it here:

This is a question that we discussed a bit in class, but it has the potential to be very deep. Again, we first began to get a clear glimpse into Julia's personality in this section. How is Julia similar to Winston, and how is she different? How does her overly-optimistic and fairly superficial way of rebelling against the Party affect her and Winston's relationship to each other? Make predictions about both Winston and Julia's future actions based on their personalities.

Again, sorry for the tardiness of the question! Blogger just seems to hate me... See you all tomorrow!

I think the fundamental difference between their rebellions is the age gap between the two.
Julia knows of nothing but the party so she rebels in a way the party does not notice and is unlikely to make an impact on something she views as unchangeable.

Winston, who dimly remembers life before the party, rebels in a way that will make more impact. He thinks and comes up with plans to oust the party from power.

I think in the end one, probably Julia, will betray the other.
